Theodosia Man Arrested for Murder, Drug Charges

Gainesville, MO. – A Theodosia man was arrested for murder on Monday following a supposed domestic assault.

Deputies with the Ozark County Sheriff responded to a residence in Theodosia shortly after 4:30 a.m. on June 13, 2022 for a reported shooting. The deputies arrived to find a 27-year old man with a gunshot wound inside a residence. Law enforcement attempted life saving measures but were unsuccessful and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

At the scene of the shooting was Brian Mathew Dunaway, age 42 of Theodosia, who admitted to shooting the man after watching a domestic assault between the deceased and the deceased’s girlfriend. Dunaway had asked the man to stop when he turned and charged Dunaway. This is when Dunaway shot the man and waited on law enforcement to arrive.

Dunaway admitted to taking Methamphetamine prior to the shooting more of the drug was found to be in his possession.

Brian Mathew Dunaway, age 42 of Theodosia is being charged with 2nd Degree Murder, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. He is being held in the Ozark County Jail without bond until further order of the court.

The name of the deceased is being withheld at this time pending notification of family.
