Three-Year-Old Murder Case Sees Resolution with Murder Conviction

Viola, AR. – A 3 year-old homicide case near Viola, Arkansas has received a resolution as the defendant in this case received a 31-year conviction to prison.

33-year-old Stacie Hickman pleaded guilty last Wednesday to first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse, receiving her sentence from Judge Tim Weaver with the Izard County Circuit Court. The victim was 59-year-old David Southerland, whose body was found partially burned, wrapped in barbed wire, and severely beaten.

This case began on June 1st, when the body of Southerland was found by a gate near Briarwood Road. This murder reportedly originated from a dispute over land.
