West Plains Economic Development holds monthly meeting

West Plains Economic Development Corporation (WPEDC) held their monthly meeting on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at the West Plains Public Library.

As part of the meeting, West Plains Economic Development Director, David Bossemeyer, provided report on the following topics:

The financial reports were reviewed.  A motion and second was made to accept the financial report.  Motion passed.

Economic Development Director Report:

  • He has been distributing SBA restaurant grant information to area restaurants
  • Talking to area CID’s about getting better organized
  • Demonstrated a sample version of a 360 video
  • Met with the Workforce subcommittee and the Beautification subcommittee
  • Collected quarterly information to be used for job ads with the media
  • Met with prospect interested in the Tribble building
  • Stehn and Bossemeyer met with MoDOT on the possibility of a left turn into the Hampton Inn
  • Southern Hills development is ongoing
  • Building permits are strong
  • Presented a handout of where shoppers came from that shopped at Southern Hills
  • Looking at options for possibly replacing Lighthouse Software

Other business conducted by the Executive Board included: 

  • Smith encouraged all executive board members to make contacts for possible donors
  • Met with Tracy Morris and Dustin Harrison to get a feel for existing ordinances.  Grigsby reported he is wanting to expand the committee to get more input.  They also want to create a social media presence to highlight places citizens are improving,
  • Strategic Plan. Cundall encouraged all to consider what this should look like and what should be in it
  • Stehn reported that the Children’s splash zone is almost complete
  • All thanked Stehn for his many efforts to improve West Plains during his tenure as City Administrator

The West Plains Economic Development Corporation, was formed as a public/private partnership to boost the economic development prospects in the area. The board consists of representatives from the business sector, the community, and the City of West Plains – all of whom will work closely with Dave Bossemeyer on economic development projects for the area.
