West Plains Man Walks Into Traffic, Struck By Semi Monday Afternoon

West Plains, MO. – A West Plains man was struck by a tractor trailer after walking into traffic Monday afternoon. The incident occurred at 4:47 p.m. at the US 63 – Porter Wagoner merger. 

According to witnesses at the scene, Edward M. Horton, 84 of West Plains, was part of a volunteer trash pickup crew and attempted to cross the highway without looking for traffic and walked into the side of a 2000 Kenworth tractor trailer driven by Jerald Schreiber of Columbus, Nebraska. Schreiber saw Horton and swerved in an attempt to avoid the man.

Horton suffered serious injuries in the accident and was airlifted to Cox South in Springfield for treatment. Neither Schreiber or the truck were harmed in the accident.
