The West Plains R-VII School District is pleased to announce the hiring of two assistant principals for the 2026–2027 school year: Melissa Rutledge and Katie Jones. Both bring a strong background in instructional leadership, classroom experience, and a deep commitment to student success.
Melissa Rutledge currently serves as the district’s Secondary Instructional Coach, a role she has held for the past two years. Prior to that, Ms. Rutledge served as an Assistant Middle School Principal, Instructional Coach, Title I Teacher, Reading Specialist, and First Grade Teacher. She spent 24 years in the Mountain View–Birch Tree School District, gaining extensive experience across multiple grade levels and instructional settings. Ms. Rutledge’s leadership background and focus on instructional excellence will be a valuable asset to West Plains Elementary.
Katie Jones is currently a Third Grade Teacher at West Plains Elementary and is in her fourth year with the district. Before joining West Plains, Mrs. Jones spent five years as a Preschool Teacher and Fourth Grade Teacher at East Newton. Her experience in early childhood and elementary education, along with her strong connection to the West Plains Elementary community, positions her well to support students, staff, and families in her new role.
Ms. Rutledge and Mrs. Jones will officially begin their roles as Assistant Principals at West Plains Elementary on July 1, for the 2026–2027 school year.
