WP City Council rejects mask mandate

Monday, the West Plains City Council met in its regular monthly meeting. On the meeting’s agenda was the first reading of the the city’s proposed mask mandate. Prior to the start of the meeting, a small group of West Plains citizens peacefully protested the mask mandate outside of City Hall.

Ozark Radio News spoke with Brian Smolnik, one of the protesters. He explained why the group was protesting the mandate:

After the council read the proposed mandate, they voted 3-2 not to pass the mandate on to a second reading. The city of West Plains had planned for the second reading of the proposed mandate on Thursday, however, since the proposal failed to reach a second reading, it fails to pass.
