Clever, MO Man Pleads Guilty to Trafficking Firearms

SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI- A man from Christian County pleaded to illegally possessing firearms on Wednesday. 

Twenty-One-year-old Dakota Mitchell pleaded guilty before U.S District Court Judge Douglas Harpool to one count of conspiracy to firearms trafficking, one count of trafficking firearms, and one count of unlawful possession of firearms.

Mitchell admitted to conspiring with a straw purchaser to obtain four firearms in addition to the ones he already had. Among the guns already in Mitchell’s possession were six Glock pistols and a Micro Drago pistol between April 28th, 2024 and July 9th, 2024. 

There were several instances of firearm purchases by Mitchell before July 9th of 2024;

  • On May 11th, 2023, A road rage incident involving Mitchell led to his confession of shooting at a vehicle that had stopped short of an intersection. Greene County Sheriff’s officers seized a Glock 40 caliber with a high-capacity magazine & Glock. 9 mm. 
  • On April 11th, 2024, Ozark School District Resource Officers recovered a Glock. 9 mm. that was traced back to Mitchell. 
  • On Mitchell’s July 9th, 2024, arrest for vandalism, he was in possession of a Glock 40 caliber, semi-automatic pistol. In this interview with GCSO Officers, Mitchell also confessed to using Marijuana as well as using narcotics and psychedelic drugs. 

Mitchell admitted to being part of an area gang known as “FTO.” FTO in the past has been linked to a number of violent crime offenses as well as possessing firearms. He will serve 15 years in federal prison without parole on each conviction
