AVA, Mo. — Two Ava residents were arrested following the execution of a narcotics search warrant in the early morning hours of April 23 on Jefferson Street, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Law enforcement officers reported that as they approached the residence, a male subject later identified as Brandon Hurst, 37, of Ava, was standing in the driveway. Upon seeing patrol vehicles with emergency lights activated, Hurst fled on foot but was quickly taken into custody.

Authorities then entered a camp trailer on the property, where they located Lyndon Ludwig, 46, of Ava. According to the report, Ludwig failed to comply with commands to get on the ground and was assisted to the ground before being taken into custody without further incident.

Investigators reported locating methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia inside the trailer. Officials also stated that Hurst discarded a bag of methamphetamine while attempting to flee.

Both men were arrested and placed on a 24-hour hold. A warrant was later issued for Ludwig on charges of possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest, with bond set at $15,000 cash only. Hurst faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest, with bond also set at $15,000 cash only.

According to the sheriff’s office, Ludwig is a convicted felon with five prior drug-related arrests, while Hurst has four prior felony arrests.

Douglas County Sheriff Chris Degase credited the Ava Police Department for its assistance in the case.

“Douglas County Sgt. Aaron Box and Lt. Gabe Stroud from the Ava Police Department worked relentlessly on this case for several weeks,” Degase said. “This is the second search warrant served at this address since I have been sheriff where illegal narcotics were seized. I would like to thank the Ava Police Department for not only their assistance serving this search warrant, but Lt. Stroud’s assistance on this case.”

All charges are allegations, and defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
