Brenda Kay Potter

Funeral services for Brenda Kay Potter, Age 74 of Ava, Missouri will be Friday, January 16, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. in the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, MO with burial following in the Girdner Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service at 1:00 P.M. Officiating will be Rev. Maxine Lund and Rev. Ray Dobbs. Memorials may be made to the Girdner Cemetery.

Brenda Kay (Lakey) Potter, 74 years went home to be with her Lord on January 11, 2026 at her home with Ronald by her side. Brenda was born along with her twin brother, Burney, on May 12, 1951 in Sweden, Missouri to Lloyd and Mabel (Loftin) Lakey.

Brenda was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose greatest joy in life was her family. She married the love of her life, Ronald Gene Potter, on June 14, 1969, beginning a devoted marriage built on love, commitment, and family. They got to celebrate 56 years together.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Mabel (Loftin) Lakey; siblings, Velma Lakey, Leila (Lakey) Riggs, Lyle Lakey, Troy Lakey, Glinda Lakey, Mary Ann (Lakey) Wheeler, Burney Lakey (twin brother), Donald Potter (Ronald’s twin brother), Ed and Minnie Potter, Leonard and Dee Potter, James Potter, Wilda Potter, Ronnie Pinckney, and Lonnie Atchison.

Brenda was the proud mother of three children. She is survived by her daughter Joanna (Potter) Lafferty and her husband Jimmy, and their children, Charlee and Montgomery; her daughter Kayla (Potter) Lakey and her husband Lewis, and their daughter Journey; and her son Lynel Potter and his wife Lesley, and their children Maggey, Grady, and Jozie; her brother, Kenneth Lakey; a host of nieces; nephews and their spouses, whom she loved dearly.

Brenda was a Christian and attended the Girdner Church with Ronald for several years and was always up to going to any Church event.

Brenda loved spending time with her family above all else. She cherished every moment with her children and grandchildren, who were truly the light of her life. In her quieter moments, she found joy in cooking, whether it be a good home cooked meal to homemade jelly or Christmas candy, embroidery, playing bingo, working in her yard, and visiting with friends. Brenda had a warm, welcoming spirit and enjoyed simple pleasures that brought people together, but you never had to wonder what she was thinking or how she felt about you.

Her love for her husband, children, and grandchildren knew no bounds, and her caring heart will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Brenda’s legacy lives on through the family she loved so dearly and the memories they will cherish forever.
