Lee’s early years were spent with his family moving around the southwest until his parents purchased a fixer-upper home in Dixon, MO in 1965, to settle near his mother’s family. His energetic curiosity led his parents to putting up a fence around their yard after he was found in the middle of Highway 28 one day. Lee began his early school years at Vienna before the family purchased the farm he grew up on in 1973 in Cabool where he continued in the 2nd grade and earned his high school diploma with the Class of 1983. Lee learned welding while in school through the Vo-Tech school in Mountain Grove. He and his classmates developed strong and life-long friendships that continued through the years up to his death. He worked for Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, AR cleaning the operating rooms after surgeries were completed for about one year after graduating high school. Then learning all he needed to know about the moving business from Raymond Coffman after he was hired by Coffman Moving Company in Mountain Grove. After Raymond retired and closed his business, Lee worked various skilled labor jobs such as construction, tree trimming, and mill-wright. He started Lee Bass Moving in 2005, to get back to the work he most enjoyed, where he was able to fill a much-needed service and help others by providing affordable and quality work for his home town area.

On September 17, 1988 he married the love of his life, Verna Coatney, and they were blessed with two children. The family lived near Cabool where their children attended and graduated from the same school their father had. In 2020 they purchased their current home in Solo, MO.

Lee’s children have graced them with five grandchildren, Finn, Ariel, Azrael, Aspen, and Riley. Lee enjoyed watching westerns but mostly enjoyed spending time visiting with his friends and grandchildren. He had many friends who he loved and loved him in return. He lived with a heart for helping others and being a true friend, both to those he grew up with, as well as those he met throughout his life.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Gail Bass, an infant brother, Curtiss Neil, and a brother-in-law, Leon Bell. He is survived by his wife, Verna, his children, Curtis and Laura, his five grandchildren, his siblings, Deana Bass, Irma Bell, and Joe (Patty), father-in-law Jerry Coatney (Pat), mother-in-law Bonnie Daniels (Dave), and brother-in-law Jimmy Coatney (Donna). Lee will be missed by family and friends, as well as, a group of young people Lee called “his kids” who he helped to grow into the adults they have become today by teaching them the benefits of good work ethics due to Lee’s generous and caring heart.
