Marion George Nelson, 89, of Mountain Home passed away Sunday, November 28, 2021, in Mountain Home. He was born December 29, 1931, in Cedar Falls, Iowa to the late George and Viola (Rosenthal) Nelson. Marion was a Korean War Veteran serving as a chaplain’s assistant and organist in Japan. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Cotter where he served 25 years as the organist. Marion was also a Master Mason. He is preceded in passing by his parents; a daughter, Kristin Dawn Staggs; a daughter-in-law, Linda Nelson; three brothers and a sister.
Marion is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lorraine (Marks) Nelson of Mountain Home; two children, Merlin Nelson of Mountain Home and Melinda (Jack) Chandler of Solgohachia; two grandchildren, Lucas Kunert of Conway and Jessica Lynn (Chase) VanHoose of Benton; five grandchildren, Madisyn and Layla Kunert of Conway, Harper, Landen and Dash VanHoose of Benton and a son-in-law, Steve Staggs of Benton.
A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at the Conner Family Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, December 2, 2021, at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Cotter with Pastor Jimmie Snow officiating. Burial will follow at the Mountain Home Cemetery under the direction of Conner Family Funeral Home & Cremation Center.
