Minnie Cecil Roy was born on June 30, 1915 to Arnold and Zillie (Yates) Roy on Carter Creek near Van Buren, Missouri and departed this life on January 7, 2021, in St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 105 years 6 months and 8 days.
She was united in marriage to Thomas Wesley Martin on March 31, 1935 and to this union five children were born. She is survived by her children, Doris Ritter of Wentzville, MO, T.J. Martin of Fredericktown, MO, Kay (James) Hough of Winona, MO, Dick (Elaine) Martin of St. Louis, MO, and Sue (James) Young of St. Louis, MO; eleven grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; fourteen great great grandchildren; and one great great great grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, three sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law, one grandson, one great grandson, mother, dad, sister, brothers, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
She worked at Angelica Uniform in the late 50’s and early 60’s, but the job she was most satisfied doing was being Mom and MeMaw. She was in her glory when she had her family with her. The family has such good memories of going to the farm and gathering around the table to play Liverpool rummy with her. She loved her flowers and sewing. Every Christmas she made a handmade quilt for each family member. She and Tom always had a big garden and they loved to share their vegetables with family and friends.
She was active in the Republican party and loved to work with the candidates that were seeking office.
In 1999, when she lost her husband Tom, she sold her farm and moved to St. Louis to be closer to her family. Even though she wanted to be near her family and enjoyed all the attention she received, her heart was still in Shannon County on the farm with her goats and dogs.
Her faith in our Lord and Savior remained strong until the end. Her favorite words were “Ohh God.” During the covid lockdown, the nurses would go in and sing with her. Near the end, she had forgotten some of the words to the church songs she had sang for years but that didn’t make a difference to her. She would say whatever came to her and would just keep singing.
She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
