Ormal “Joe” Bennett

Ormal “Joe” Bennett, known by many as “Grampy”, 79 years, 2 months, 9 days old, passed away on February 4, 2022 sourrounded by his family at The University of Kansas Health Systems in Kansas City, KS.

Joe was born November 26, 1942 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Roy and Goldie (Orth) Bennett.

Joe was a Retired Dock Worker for Roadway Express for 32 years 1/2 years.

On October 27, 1962 Joe and Janet Erwin were united in marriage at Denlow, MO and they were blessed with two children, Jody Bennett and Toni (Bennett) Smith.

He enjoyed fishing,hunting and bowling in his early years. His greatest passion was spending time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and the love of his life, Skip (Janet).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Goldie Bennett, two sisters; Mina Vandervort and Louis Sparkman. Three brothers, Gene, Rick and Doug Bennett and his best four legged buddy, Bodean.

Joe is survived by his wife, Janet of the home in Independence, his two children and their spouses, Jody and Kalein Bennett, Toni and Ken Smith, all of Independence, MO,  Grandchildren; Stephanie and Collin Spencer of Sedalia, MO, Amyliah Smith and boyfriend, Austin Grimes of Independence, MO, Rose Marie Bennett and fiance’ Michael McBride of Fayette, MO, Andrew and Alexandria Bennett of Fulton, IL and Kendall Smith of Independence, MO. Great Grandchildren, Taylor Mock, Bradlee Mock, Leo Bennett Spencer, Kathryn McBride, Brooks Smith, Hudson Spencer and Clayton Bennett. Siblings, Peggy Wimberley and Sharon and Jim O’Harra, brother-in-laws, Mike and Pat Erwin and Stan and Mary Erwin, as well as many extended family and friends.

Funeral services for Joe will be Friday, February 11, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. in the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, MO with burial following in the Ava Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. Officiating will be Pastor Jack Clemans. The family as requested that everyone attending to please wear a mask due to health issues in the family. Thank you.
