On October 21, 1956, he was united in marriage to Claudene George in Eminence, Missouri. To this union, one son, Michael Dean, was born on November 2, 1957.

After their marriage, Dean and Claudene moved to Kansas City, where he worked as a manager at a Clark gas station. He later began working for the United States Postal Service, where he carried the mail for 13 years before moving to Springfield. He continued working in the main post office there, retiring after a total of 35 years of service.

Dean enjoyed gardening very much and always had a large, plentiful garden that he loved sharing with others. He had a passion for cars and could remember what a person drove from years past up until the end.

He was a faithful member of Sac River Cowboy Church, where he was saved. Dean was very proud of his son. The loss of both his son, Mike, and his wife, Claudene, saddened him greatly, and he lost much of the zest he once had for life. He did, however, cherish his wonderful neighbors and always enjoyed visiting with them.

In his final days, Dean spent time reminiscing about his hometown, friends, neighbors, and family, and the many places he had been throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Goldia McCallister; his son, Mike; his daughter-in-law, Jan McCallister; and his wife, Claudene.

Dean is survived by his devoted sister, Rosa Lea Walls, along with her large family of children and grandchildren.
