Baseball Welcomes Seven Transfers for 2022

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Mizzou Baseball head coach Steve Bieser has finalized the addition of seven transfers to the Tigers roster for the 2022 season.

A right-handed pitcher, Carter Rustad will return to his native state to play in Black and Gold. Originally from Kansas City, Mo., Rustad spent two seasons at San Diego prior to transferring. In his shortened freshman season, Rustad was named a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American after recording an 0.84 ERA over four starts. His 2.11 hits allowed per nine innings ranked first in the West Coast Conference and second nationally.

Junior middle infielder Nander De Sedas joins the Tigers after three years at Florida State. In his sophomore season in 2021, he started all 52 of the Seminoles’ games, hitting a career-high seven home runs. In 2019, he was named All-Region in the Athens NCAA Regional after collecting six hits in three games helping the Seminoles to a trip to the College World Series. De Sedas was drafted in the 29th round of the 2018 MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers.

Fox Leum, a corner infielder and Minnesota native, comes to Columbia as a graduate transfer from Coastal Carolina. In 2020, he started 14 of 15 games while hitting .250 with a team-high 12 walks and a .420 on-base percentage in the shortened season. Prior to CCU, Leum was a standout at North Iowa Area Community College.

Chris Wall makes the short trip across town after starring at Columbia College for the past four seasons. A two-time All-NAIA selection, Wall went 11-1 in 2021 with a 1.92 ERA and 138 strikeouts, including a 16-strikeout, seven-inning shutout. In 2020, the south paw posted a 6-0 record with a 0.81 ERA and 69 strikeouts in just 107 batters faced during the shortened season.

Senior Austin Cheeley will be returning to the Show-Me State for his final collegiate season, joining the team from Middle Tennessee. The St. Louis native pitched to a 1-1 record over 13 appearances in 2021, holding opponents to just a .241 batting average. Cheeley fanned 19 opposing batters in 21.1 innings of work last spring.

A 6-foot-8 right-handed pitcher, Austin Marozas comes to Mizzou after playing the 2021 season at Charlotte. A native of Plainfield, Ill., Marozas went 4-2 over 16 appearances in the spring. The righty made eight starts, including six scoreless innings against Tennessee in a 9-0 victory. He went five or more innings in seven of his eight starts for the 49ers.

Another transfer who calls St. Louis home, junior Dexter Swims joins the Tigers after three seasons at Missouri Southern. Swims gave the Lions a consistent presence in the lineup, batting north of .280 in each of his three seasons in Joplin. In 2019, Swims was named the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year and First Team All-MIAA.
