SPRINGFIELD — Missouri State women’s basketball standout Brice Calip (Sapulpa, Okla.) has been named as the recipient of the university’s 2021 Outstanding Female Athlete Award, as voted on by the head coaches of MSU’s 11 women’s intercollegiate programs and announced Monday (June 28).
Other finalists for the 2020-21 Outstanding Female Athlete Award were: Kyli Jackson (soccer), Olivia Krehbiel (softball), Madison Meredith (track), Anna Miller (swimming), Tiffani Nash (tennis) and Chloe Tome (Beach volleyball).
This season, Calip became the Lady Bears’ 10th MVC Player of the Year Award winner and first since 2016. She also earned All-MVC first team and MVC All-Defensive Team laurels. Calip led the MVC and ranked 10th nationally with a 2.82 assist-to-turnover ratio to set a Missouri State single-season record. She led the Lady Bears in scoring (13.3 ppg), assists (4.3) and steals (2.2), ranking third in the MVC in the latter two categories while helping MSU to a second straight NCAA Sweet Sixteen run.
Calip scored in double figures 21 times and was a four-time MVC Player of the Week with game-winning shots at Valparaiso and Illinois State to her credit. She also led the MVC in free throw accuracy at 84 percent with a 92 percent accuracy in the fourth quarter.
Calip is the third Lady Bears’ player in as many years to earn the MSU Outstanding Female Athlete Award distinction, joining former teammate Danielle Gitzen (2019) and Alexa Willard (2020). This season marks the 12th time a women’s basketball player has won or shared the award, which was first presented in 1981.
