Cardinals 2, Royals 1

The Cardinals split the two-game series with the Royals taking yesterday’s game 2-1. Nolan Arenado broke a scoreless tie in the sixth inning with a double off reliever Carlos Hernandez. Nolan Gorman hit a sacrifice fly off Aroldis Chapman in the eighth. It was Miles Mikolas who did the rest for the Cardinals. He pitched eight shutout innings, matching a career-high 10 strikeouts while allowing just three hits. Mikolas threw 102 pitches but didn’t come out for the ninth because he said he had a small blister on his hand.

The Royals scored a run off Giovanny Gallegos in the ninth after getting a double and a single to start the inning, but could only get one. Zack Greinke was equally as tough, tossing a shutout for five innings before giving way to the bullpen.
