Starting pitcher Ryan Bergert earned his second win after throwing six innings of one-run ball. The Royals are second in the AL Central at 69-and-65.

They will host the Detroit Tigers tomorrow night.

Pirates 2, Cardinals 1

The St. Louis Cardinals had just four hits in a 2-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. Pedro Pages drove in the Cardinals only run in the losing effort, while Sonny Gray was charged with his seventh loss after giving up one earned run and one unearned run on three hits in seven innings.

It’s the third time in August Sonny Gray has pitched seven innings and has allowed just one earned run in those starts.

Tommy Pham’s two-run single with the bases loaded in the sixth against his former team gave the Pirates the lead.

St. Louis is in fourth place in the AL Central at 65-and-69. Miles Mikolas starts for the Cardinals against the Pirates this afternoon.
