CARDINALS COMPLETE 2025 MLB DRAFT

  1. LOUIS, Mo., July 14, 2025 – The St. Louis Cardinals concluded their 2025 Major League Baseball Draft this evening, selecting 17 players on the final day and 21 players total over the two-day event.  The Cardinals selected 20 collegiate players and one high school prep player in this year’s draft.  The players represented 16 different states, including four from Texas, and two each from Tennessee and California.  The Cardinals selections by position included 12 pitchers, five infielders, three outfielders, and one catcher.  Of the 12 pitchers, two are left-handed.

The organization’s lone catcher selected was O’Fallon, Missouri native Chase Heath out of the University of Central Missouri, who celebrates his 22nd birthday today.

The 2025 draft marks the third consecutive year in which St. Louis selected college players with all but one pick (20 of 21).  The deadline for drafted players to sign with their respective clubs is Monday, July 28, at 4 PM CT.

LHP Cade Crossland    4th Round (120th overall)         University of Oklahoma

  • Led the Big West in walks and struck out only 20 times, ranking 13th nationally in strikeout-to-walk ratio.
  • Stole a team-high seven bases and was T1st with seven stolen bases across 16 games for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks in the 2025 Cape Cod League.
  • Graduated from Honolulu’s Maryknoll High School, and is the third Spartan to be drafted in school history with RHP Jordan Kurosawa in 2016 (Phillies) and RHP Jacob Remily in 2024 (Guardians).

  • Went 2-0 with a 1.99 ERA with a 13.1 SO/9 IP rate, a team-leading 4.13 SO/BB ratio and team-high 33 strikeouts in four starts (22.2 IP) in 2024 for the Kokomo Jackrabbits of the Northwoods League.
  • Was a two-sport star in football and baseball at Kamiakin High School in Kennewick, Wash., earning 2021 MCC Player of the Year honors in baseball and 2021 MCC All-Purpose Player of the Year honors in football.

  • Earned 2023 Atlantic 10 All-Rookie honors after leading St. Joseph’s with 17 stolen bases and hitting .323 with 10 home runs.
  • Named the 2022 Press of Atlantic City Player of the Year after hitting .457 with seven home runs, 31 RBI, an .864 slugging percentage, and a 1.68 ERA as a shortstop/closer for the St. Augustine College Preparatory School (N.J.) Hermits.

  • Was a 2024 Cape Cod League All-Star while ranking 3rd in the league with 28 RBI and 9th with 38 hits for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks.
  • Named a 2023 Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La. Slashed .372/.447/.561 (83-223) with eight home runs, 18 doubles, and a 1.007 OPS in 56 games.

  • Finished 7-0 with a 1.52 ERA (47.1 IP), nine saves, and 71 strikeouts in 27 games for Stetson, leading the team in wins, saves, and appearances.
  • Was one of four pitchers in the NCAA with at least seven wins and nine saves in 2025.
  • Van Dyke joins LHP Mike Ullian (1983 15th) as the other Mad Hatter to be drafted by St. Louis since 1965.

  • As a sophomore in 2024, batted .340/.408/.656 (82-241) with 18 home runs in 60 games, pacing Longhorns in doubles (22), RBI (56), and hit by pitches (10), while tying for club lead in home runs and total bases (158). Ranks 5th in program history with 35 career home runs.
  • Developed at shortstop under the tutelage of Longhorns assistant coach Troy Tulowitzki. Went undrafted out of Brandeis High School in San Antonio, because he wanted to attend Texas and learn from Tulowitzki.

  • Pitched three seasons at Northern Kentucky (2022-23, 2025), going 10-15 with a 5.40 ERA (186.2 IP) and 217 strikeouts in 45 games (34 starts). Missed the 2024 season due to injury.
  • His 217 career strikeouts at Northern Kentucky ranked 4th in program history, while his 34 career starts are T 7th all-time.
  • As a junior in 2025, posted a career-best 4.34 ERA over 56.0 innings with a 35.7% strikeout rate—which ranked 10th in the nation among qualified pitchers—and a 9.4% walk rate.
  • Struck out the side in his lone inning of relief work in the 2025 MLB Draft League vs. Cape Cod League All-Star Game while representing the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod League.
  • Echeman is the first player drafted from Northern Kentucky by St. Louis, and first selected overall since the Red Sox drafted 1B Trey Ganns in the 35th round of 2017.

  • Logged a 13.8 SO/9 IP rate as a redshirt sophomore in 2025, while establishing the school’s single-season saves record (11).
  • Struck out 10 of 23 batters faced (43.5%) with Royal Oak of the Northwoods Summer League in 2025.
  • Also played football and basketball for two years for the Hemlock (Mich.) High School Huskies.
  • Shelagowski is the first player drafted from Saginaw Valley State by St. Louis, and first selected overall since the Blue Jays drafted RHP Mike Ellenbest in the 24th round of 2016.

  • Played four years of baseball at Chilton High School in Chilton, Wis., where he also played basketball and football. Named the Eastern Wisconsin Conference Player of the Year as a senior pitcher by unanimous vote.

  • Served as the Jackrabbits closer as a junior in 2025 and posted a team-best six saves while tying for 2nd on the team with 17 appearances. Stuck out 50 batters in 35.0 innings and held the opposition to a .233 batting average.
  • Majored in Mechanical Engineering at South Dakota State.
  • Graduated from Millard West High School in Omaha, Neb.
  • Is the first Jackrabbit drafted by St. Louis in program history.
  • Pitched the first 6.0 innings of a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts for the Fremont Moo of the Independence League Baseball Association in 2024.

  • Batted .368/.437/.651 (56-152) with nine homers, 12 doubles, and 59 RBI in 38 games his senior year in 2025. Also caught 14 baserunners attempting to steal.
  • Joins RHP Nicholas Webber (2005 2nd) and LHP Lee Stoppelman (2012 24th Rd.) as the third former Mule drafted by St. Louis.
