Lars Nootbaar reported to Cardinals camp, still working his way back from offseason surgery on both heels to correct Haglund’s deformities. The 28-year-old outfielder spent much of the winter in walking boots and rehabbing in California, using an altered gravity treadmill as part of his recovery. He has resumed hitting and throwing, but does not have a timetable for returning to game action and could need extra at-bats in spring or the minors before he is ready. The Cardinals are hopeful that a healthy Nootbaar can bounce back after a down season and reclaim his role in right field.
