Chiefs WR Rashee Rice Receives Six-Game Suspension to Start 2025 NFL Season

The Kansas City Chiefs now have clarity on Rashee Rice’s availability for the upcoming season. The wide receiver will serve a six-game suspension to begin the 2025 NFL campaign, following the league’s ruling on a personal conduct policy violation.

The suspension stems from a multi-vehicle crash in Dallas, Texas, on March 30, 2024, in which Rice was involved. On July 17, 2025, he resolved both the criminal and civil aspects of the case, receiving a sentence of five years’ probation and 30 days in jail. Shortly after, the NFL launched its own investigation into the incident.

Initially, Rice sought an arbitrator jointly appointed by the NFL and NFLPA to handle his case, a move that allowed him to remain eligible to play during the first four weeks of the 2025 season. However, he has since reached an agreement with the league, accepting a six-game suspension.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports that Rice’s suspension aligns with the NFL’s baseline for first-time violations of its personal conduct policy. While the league reserves the right to lengthen or shorten suspensions based on aggravating or mitigating factors, Rice’s case settled at the standard six games.

Rice will officially be placed on the Reserve/Suspended list at the start of the season. While serving the suspension, he will be permitted to attend team meetings, undergo rehab, and work out at team facilities. He will not, however, be eligible to rejoin the active roster until the week leading up to the Chiefs’ Week 7 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.
