The Blues picked up their first win of the season with a 2-1 shootout victory over the Seattle Kraken at Enterprise Center on Saturday. Jordan Kyrou scored the Blues only goal during regulation to tie the game at one and eventually send it to overtime. After a scoreless extra frame, St. Louis beat Seattle 1-0 in the shootout. Jordan Binnington had 30 saves during the victory. The Blues are 1-0-and-1 to begin the season, and they host the Coyotes on Thursday. Pregame 630 puck drop 7pm Q94.
Rangers starter Jordan Montgomery and the Texas bullpen shut down the reigning champion Astros for a 2-0 win in Game One of the ALCS at Minute Maid Park. Montgomery had six strikeouts and allowed five hits through six-and-a-third scoreless frames of work to earn the win. Houston starter Justin Verlander was charged the loss after he let up two runs through six-and-two-thirds innings. The Astros went 1-for-3 with runners in scoring position in the losing effort. The series continues in Houston on Monday afternoon.
The Mizzou Tigers are back in the top-25 following a 38-21 win over previously ranked number-23 Kentucky at Kroger Field on Saturday. The Tigers are ranked 20th in the AP and Coaches Top 25 poll. Mizzou was down 14-0 early before taking a 20-14 lead in the third quarter. However, Kentucky scored a touchdown late in the quarter to take a one-point lead. Mizzou responded with touchdown runs from Brady Cook and Cody Schrader within the first four minutes of the fourth quarter. The Tigers led for the rest of the game. Cook passed for 167 yards, a touchdown, and an interception in the victory. The Mizzou defense created three turnovers and four quarterback sacks, holding QB Devin Leary to just 14-of-27 for only 120 yards. Mizzou improved to 6-and-1 overall and 2-and-1 in the SEC.
