The Missouri State West Plains Grizzly Basketball team traveled to The Seacrest Event Center @ Mineral Area College in Park Hills, Missouri on Wednesday night, February 4th, 2026 to take on The Mineral Area Cardinals for the second time this season
In a home game on Wednesday, January 14th; Mineral Area swept the Grizzlies by twenty points, 94-74.
Last night Grizzlies showed some better effort on offense, but still could not pull out a win as The Cardinals got the win, 82-75.
1st Half: The Mineral Area Cardinals control the tip. To the Grizzlies advantage, they get a stop as #3, Teon Garrett tries to get off a shot but it’s taken and put in by #1, Tyrell Smith to put the Grizzlies first.
Cardinals having luck so far with the press as Grant is able to shoot two field goals. Grizzlies score on two rebounds doing a much better job rebounding as #5, Shaun Glass shoots another field goal. #11, Makai Lindsey shoots a two pointer. Cardinals lead 6-4 with about 15:30 to go,
13-8 the score as #2, Lorenzo Shields shoots two more for threes for Mineral Area but another cut in for two by Makai Lindsey as Grizzlies come back to trail by two briefly before shields shoots another three. Grizzlies try to cut into the zone on defense and another bucket for Mineral Area by #21, Jordyn Richard. 15-11, the score now with just over ten minutes to go.
And now #24, Iziah Purvey shoots another three after having shot a two about five minutes before hand
A foul by Mineral Area as #5, Shaun Glass goes to the free throw line, Grizzlies go back to trail by eight, 21-13.
Shaun Glass goes back to the line again after a foul by #24, Iziah Purvey. But stolen twice as Purvey scores on the rebound and another bucket scored by #3, Teon Garrett for the Mineral Area Cardinals.
Grizzlies now down by as many as seventeen as #33, Nasir Allen shoots off the glass. Mineral Area doing an immaculate job rebounding the ball, but still picking up quite a few fouls.
#4 Ace Evans who has four points in the ballgame shoots a jumper after a Mineral are timeout with about 3:40 to go in the half, Cardinals still leading 35-20.
Evans another floater as they knock the Cardinals down to ten. But two more buckets follow, one by #21, Jordyn Richard, the other by #3, Teon Garrett.
HALFTIME- Mineral Area Cardinals: 43/MSU-WP Grizzlies: 29
2nd Half: Mineral Area will play zone to kick things off in the second half. #21, Jordyn Richard scores but fouls on the rebound as it is taken back by The Grizzlies and put in by #15, Javon Barbee. Rebound, lost by Mineral Area but taken back and put in again by #5, Shaun Glass.
Mineral Area comes back with it and bounce pass to Richard who scores again. Rebound by #10, Nassir Binion.
A foul on the Grizzlies sends #33, Nazir Allen to the line for The Mineral Area Cardinals. Mineral Area continue to hold the lead, 48-36.
A three ball by #1, Makai Joyner for Mineral Area and now Cardinals are up by sixteen, 49-36. Rebound by #24, Dassiah Green for the Grizzlies who puts the ball up and in for two and now back to a fourteen point game.
Grizzlies keep going with it as #5, Shaun Glass shoots and scores for two more. A foul on the shot and rebound by #1, Makai Joyner. Joyner makes 1-3. 53-40, Mineral Area with 14:04 to go.
No contact as Grizzlies come within ten by #4, Ace Evans. Grizzlies also getting within reach of the bonus with 12:07 to go in the half. Bounce pass across by #1, Joyner.
After a timeout Joyner goes up and in for another spin move. Rebound by the Grizzlies and jumper is up and good y #3, Blayne Harris, Grizzlies down by ten 58-48 with 10:50.
Next bucket good by #22, Carl Claxton for Mineral Area. Rebounded again by the Grizzlies and shot up and in for three by #15, Javon Barbee. 63-52, Cardinals with 9:25 to go.
Rebound and a three by #10, Nassir Binion as The Cardinals go back up by twelve.
A foul on Binion as #11, Makai Lindsey shoots two free throws. On the rebound Mineral Area will go back to play a 2-3 zone.
Grizzlies down by ten as Ace Evans shoots another bucket with just over five minutes to go, 69-61 Cardinals. Mineral Area loses the ball again as Grizzlies are now down by five, 5:28 to go. A foul on #2, Lorenzo Shields and #5 Shaun Glass goes to the line, he makes 1-2 as Grizzlies are down by only four points.
Rebound and a three is good by #3, Teon Garrett, back to a seven point game.
Grizzlies take it back and trade a few passes, ball up and in by #15, Javon Barbee. Taken back by Mineral Area and Nassir Binion goes to the line shooting two making, 1-2.
Mineral Area wins the ballgame by a Final of 84-75
