Kentucky Derby Winner Skipping Preakness: No Triple Crown This Year

Kentucky Derby winner Golden Tempo will skip the Preakness Stakes, ending any chance of a Triple Crown winner this year.

Trainer Cherie DeVaux said the decision was made to give the horse more recovery time after his dramatic Derby victory and to focus on his long-term health.

Instead, the team plans to target the Belmont Stakes in June at Saratoga Race Course.

Golden Tempo made history last weekend when DeVaux became the first woman ever to train a Kentucky Derby winner.

The move continues a growing trend in horse racing, with several recent Derby winners also skipping the Preakness because of the quick two-week turnaround between races.
