The West Plains Lady Zizzers played in their second round of districts at Hillcrest High School in Springfield on Wednesday night, March 4th, 2026 as they took on the Mcdonald County Lady Mustangs.
Lady Zizzers started off slow but went on to lead the Lady Mustangs by a consistent margin of 23 points, and won by a final of 60-39
1st Quarter: Mcdonald County controls the tip but does not take a shot as the ball is stolen away by the Lady Zizzers. A foul call and Lucy Hafer shoots two to put West Plains on the board first.
It’s a tie ballgame as The Lady Mustangs take it back as Junior Dakota O’Brien shoots the first two points for Mcdonald County. Ball stays with Mcdonald County and Senior Layla Waillin shoots a two ball. Mcdonald County stays in a zone and this is preventing Lady Zizzers for getting a look for three.
Mcdonald County leads 6-2 as Coach Crystal Otter calls a time out. Coming out of the time out; Ainsley Mcwilliams shoots the first field goal for West Plains after five minutes. West Plains will trail by one, 6-5.
O brien tries another shot for Mcdonald County but is blocked. Zoe Shrubb tries for a three but ball is deflected out of bounds but stays with West Plains. Senior Jamie Washam tries for a three but also goes out of bounds. And again for Lucy Hafer who tries a high jumper.
West Plains tries desperately for one more three right before the buzzer as Zoe Scharnhorst goes up but doesn’t make it. Mcdonald County leads by one after one, 6-5.
2nd Quarter: Senior Jamie Washam for Mac County scores on a three right out of the gate. But Lady Zizzers answer back with a three, this one by Zoe Schrubb.
O brien for Mac county tries for another shot but blocked. Stolen back again by O’Brien as The Lady Mustangs lead, 9-8.
Next shot by Junior Kearston Hopkins for Mac County. Lady Zizzers try for a steal and finally get it back as Shrubb answers back for two more.
Finally Lady Zizzers lead by one, 12-11.
Hopkins on the rebound tries for a three for Mac County. It falls short and ball goes back to West Plains. Bounce pass taken by Gillian Green and a foul over the back by Shaylee Peterson. Tries for a jump shot but falls short. Mcdonald County takes the ball in the back court.
Another three is short by Hopkins as the ball goes back to The Lady Zizzers. Zoe Scharnhorst shoots a good three to make it a three point lead now 13-11. A three point play at the line makes it, 15-11.
Dakota O’ Brien is called on a charge foul as The Lady Mustangs try to take the ball back. And another three by Zoe Shrubb as West Plains goes up three more. Weak side rebound by Dakota O’Brien and cuts the lead to seven. She completes a play at the line which falls short.
A three by Zoe Schrubb as West Plains goes back to an eight point lead. Lady Zizzers still fouling a bit more than they should but have certainly came back.
HALFTIME- West Plains Lady Zizzers: 23/ Mcdonald County Lady Mustangs: 15
3rd Quarter: West Plains saves the ball from going bounds as they get the ball to start the half. A foul on Mac County sends Shaylee Peterson to the line who makes two as West Plains goes up by two more.
Another foul and Ainsley Mcwilliams shoots two more free throws. Mcdonald County loses the next possession out of bounds and another three is good again by Ainsley Mcwilliams. Taken back by Mac County and Layla Wallian shoots from the right wing for two. Ball taken back for two more by Lucy Hafer. Lady Zizzers lead 34-19.
Hafer scores again on another long pass. A long three tried by Zoe Shrubb after the ball is taken back and lost by Mcdonald County. A foul on Shaylee Peterson sends Layla Walliain to the line, cutting the Lady Zizzer lead to 14.
Rebound and another three by Ainsley Mcwilliams sends the game back to a seventeen point lead. Ball nearly stolen but fumbled away by the Lady Zizzers. Gillian Green goes to the line after a foul by Kearston Hopkins for Mac County, she makes 1-2.
Right wing three pointer is good by Zoe Shrubb who later fouls though Mac County has not had as many fouls called by this point in the quarter.
West Plains Lady Zizzers keep the lead at the end of three, 46-23.
4th Quarter: A three by Ainsley Mcwilliams after Mac County tries for a shot several time. Lucy Hafer keeps the ball on the rebound and gets a shot from the far side. A three by Zoe Shrubb falls short and a foul on Gillian Green.
Jamie Washam shoots two free throws on the foul, Lady Zizzers with the lead 51-26. Rebound Lady Zizzers, but the ball is tied up and the ball will go back to McDonald County.
Wide open three by Zoe Schrubb after the ball is lost again by Mac County. Rebound by Jamie Washam for two more. Back to West Plains and a lay-in by Delani Wahome, 56-28.
A tough shot by Washam for Mcdonald County produces a foul and a trip to the line. In the end, there’s nothing Mcdonald County can do to salvage their season.
