Ahead of an impending winter storm, The Liberty Eagles traveled to Marshfield High School on Thursday night, January 22nd, 2026 to take on The (8-9) Marshfield Blue-Jays. A game originally scheduled for Friday, January 23rd.
Though Marshfield had just over twenty field goals in the game, Liberty won the matchup by seven points, 79-72.
1st Quarter: Marshfield Blue-Jays control the tip but loose it, Draydon Wells with the first two, Blue-Jays will plan a man to man defense and try to set up their offense. But taken and a three by Alex Tune.
Paxton Hunter also makes his first two. But Hunter Fryman, guard for the Blue-Jays scores about three in a row
After this, Back to back three pointers by Marshfield off the hands of Silas Schad and Cannon Thornhill. Paxton Hunter makes two more for Liberty, but Liberty is having a hard time trying to slow Marshfield down as they are shooting on any looks that they have. Marshfield leads at the end of one, 23-19.
2nd Quarter Marshfield goes on to outscore Liberty, 12-10 at the start of the Quarter as Schad and Thornhill continue to dominate. However; Midway through, Liberty finds weakness for The Blue-Jays in play an offensive set. Parker Tune and Blayne Altermatt make about three field goals each and Paxton Hunter shoots two sets of free throws as Blue-Jays begin to wrack up more fouls.
HALFTIME- Liberty Eagles: 39/ Marshfield Blue-Jays: 35
3rd Quarter: Marshfield is cold in shooting to start the Second Half. This as Parker Tune makes a wide open three and Draydon Wells and Paxton Hunter are able to break the pressure of the Blue-Jays and shoot several dunks. First points finally made for The Blue-Jays in the half are by Cannon Thornhill for three as well as another dunk on a turnover by The Eagles.
Boyd Mesick for the Blue-Jays also makes a two as Liberty decides to quit playing man-to-man midway though.
And now a three by thornhill, as The Blue-Jays trail by three with about a minute to go. Liberty has seven turnovers so far in the ballgame.
At the end of three, Liberty holds the lead 56-51.
4th Quarter: Liberty forces two turnovers out of Marshfield going into the fourth as Parker Tune drives and makes two easy baseline shots. This gives time for Liberty to set up their offense a little more as Blayne Altermatt shoots a much needed three pointer, now 65-53 Liberty.
Blue Jays finally make it to the line on a blocking foul for Liberty as Thornhill shoots two free throws.
Schad makes a dunk for two after the next Liberty timeout, but Draydon Wells answers back.
Marshfield by this point has 29 three pointers and this continues to be from wide open shots and no particular position.
Two more trips to the free throw line for Liberty by Draydon Wells and Carter Ellett.
With 19.3 seconds to go Liberty holds the lead 78-72 and finds themselves looking to fight off another three from Marshfield.
Another foul and Blayne Altermatt shoots two more for Liberty and rebound Parker Tune, another foul on Schad and Parker Tune will shoot two.
FINAL SCORE- Liberty Eagles: 79/ Marshfield Blue-Jays: 72
