Liberty Eagles Win State Quarterfinals and break losing record to Lamar Tigers

The Liberty Eagles make history on this Saturday as they defeat, a massive opponent going back years worth of quarterfinal matchups; versus the Lamar Tigers.

1st Quarter: Lamar will take 1st and ten off the controlled tip. Liberty makes a quick game and gets a small chunk of yardage, Lamar however is already looking to go deep with the Football as Jaydin Moore for The Tigers picks up about six yards. Eagles will force them into a punt position and it is taken by the Eagles on a 4th down, as the Tigers make an incomplete pass. 

Kyle Roberts will get at least five yards, breaking tackles on the first Eagle first down. He passes to Jaren Rutledge for the next play. 

On the next pass, Sawyer Morris fails the next pass as the Football goes over the head out of bounds. Parker Tune will get it as he breaks through several tackles, picking up a first down and more. Eagles take the next play for 3rd and seven but a flag is  thrown and The Lamar Tigers will be take a Offensive pass interference call. 

Tigers will also get a holding call as Hayden Osiah makes a great play as a Lamar defender cannot make a tackle and falls short. 

Both teams remain scoreless after one as both teams play very heavy defense in the First ten minutes. 

2nd Quarter: Lamar works their way into first down territory, all while fighting consistent defensive pressure from The Liberty Eagles. They punch in the first seven points of the ballgame. Eagles will set up the next offensive move as they set up a big offensive pla

They attempt one and Kyle Roberts nearly makes it into the in-zone but two flags are thrown. One on Liberty for a face mask penalty, the other; A personal foul on Lamar. 

While the Touchdown is called back, Liberty gets the first down and more as Roberts passes to Jasper Melby to get back into the in-zone as this play will count. Liberty goes on the board, 7-6.

Both teams continue to play some very tough defense to finish out the Quarter. Lamar continues to try to get a hard fought, first down but no dice. 

HALFTIME- Lamar Tigers: 7/ Liberty Eagles: 6

3rd Quarter: Liberty Eagles get the football to start the second half. They manage on some great luck and will have no penalty flag to pull out another great pass from Kyle Roberts to Jasper Melby to spontaneously take a five point lead 12-7.

 

Lamar Tigers set up for the next offensive position and are forced into a punting situation by the Eagles as they end up losing far more yards than was expected. 

Eagles take the Football back for the duration of the Quarter. 

4th Quarter: Almost instantly into the last ten minutes, the ball goes loose from Liberty and picked off by The Tigers. This gives Lamar a chance to show their capabilities on offense as many predicted this would be the one turnover that would hand Lamar the ballgame.

Lamar loses the football and it is picked up by the Eagles .Eagles fights hard for a first down with under seven minutes, but truly; the last quarter for The Eagles was a quarter fought under high end defensive pressure and very accurate timing as they use several time outs. 

Eagles miraculously win the ballgame and hold onto the Football through the remaining time.

They break the consistent losing streak in the at least eight times they had faced Lamar in Quarterfinal playoffs leading up to this match and Win by a Final Score of 12-7.

Eagles will face the undefeated Blair Oaks Falcons on Saturday @ 1 PM at the nest information.
