The Liberty Eagles resumed play on Friday night, traveling to Houston, MO to take on the (5-16) Tigers. Eagles once again pulled out a high scoring victory and another great night from the three point line.
1st Quarter: Tip controlled by Liberty as Brayden Mays tries for the first shot but goes out of bounds. Turned over to the Houston Tigers as DJ Riley tries to get a shot off but also falls short. Ball goes back to the Eagles as Gavin Reese draws first blood. Riley with the Rebound for the Tigers, putting two points on the board. Rebound Parker Tune, and a good three puts Eagles up 5-2. Rebound and taken in with a turnaround jumper by Jordan Arthur for the Tigers. Eagles take the ball back, looking to penetrate and a good back door shot by Reese. Riley at the other end for the Tigers passes to senior Nick Dennis and puts the ball up and in for three to make it a 9-7 ballgame. Houston beginning to bring more defensive pressure as senior Ezekiel Grange tries to break Eagles 3-1 press but not making it in. Brody Attkinson goes to the line on a foul call for the Tigers, missing both free throws. Rebound Eagles as Brayden Mays is easy to get in an open space and shoot an easy two pointer. Ball stays with Eagles and another easy lay-in by Reese. Floater at the buzzer by Alex Tune. Score at end of Quarter, Eagles lead 19-7.
2nd Quarter: Back to back three pointers by Brayden Mays as well a three by Alex Tune as Eagles now have a 28-7 lead. Make it 31, as Mays makes another lean-in as Houston tries to steal it back. A foul call and it will be Houston Tiger Basketball, they throw it away and picked back up by Reese to make three more for the Eagles. Rebound Jordan Arthur for the Tigers and makes seven with a good three plus a good, two-point floater as Houston now has 12 points. The third three pointer by DJ Riley as the Tigers hang onto it. Eagles take it back as Mays tries for three more but it won’t fall. A foul call on Hynes for the Eagles sends Ezekiel Grange to the line for the Tigers as he makes both free throws, making the Score 39-17. Third team foul now on the Eagles and this will send Jordan Arthur to the line making 1-2 at the line. Caden Root with a three for the Tigers as this increase in energy is taking good advantage of the Eagles decision to change from a man-to man to playing a 2 on 3. Draydon Wells with a good high post jumper as the Tigers let it go. But rebound and fade away shot by Caden Root for the Houston Tigers, making his eighth point on the night. ‘
HALFTIME- Liberty Eagles: 51/ Houston Tigers: 25
3rd Quarter: Jordan Arthur tries to go in for the first bucket for the Tigers but looses it. Gavin Reese tries for a steal but it is fouled and Nick Dennis for the Tigers shoots two at the line. Dennis makes both of his free throws. Rebound and a good three pointer by Draydon Wells. The Eagles will hang on to it and another good three for Alex Tune making it a thirty point game, 57-27. Tigers get it back and work the ball around and a good lay-in by Brody Atkinson. Parker Tune with the rebound for the Eagles, takes advantage of the open space and puts it in for two more, the Score now 59-31. Arthur makes his tenth point of the night with a nice spin move with two more for the Tigers. Eagles try to find some room on the next possession but a forced to turn it over and this allows another bucket for DJ Riley as the Tigers are now on a 7-0 run. Eagles take it back again but loose it out of bounds and another jumper by Riley. Rebound Eagles and finally, Draydon Wells puts it in on the other side. Ball kept and a nice spin move by Alex Tune to make it a 64-40 ballgame.
4th Quarter: Two solid passes by Gavin Reese as well as a stunning turnaround pass by Parker Tune to put the Eagles up now by 70 and holding on a thirty point lead. Taken back and a bounce pass and three pointer is good by DJ Riley. A foul call on the Tigers and Draydon Wells drills two good free throws. Rebound and scoop shot good by Arthur for the Tigers. Ball goes back the other way and a good ol’ fashioned three by Parker Tune. Eagles keep working it down the floor as Freshman Brian Thompson shoots a good three. Rebound Tigers and three more points answered back for the Tigers by DJ Riley. A technical foul on Brian Thompson sends Riley to the line for two free throws, almost gets to go the line again on another blocking foul.
Eagles win it 85-54. *12-21 from the Three-point line
