SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Missouri State used a trio of big innings to build an early seven-run lead against University of Missouri baseball en route to an 11-0 win over the Tigers in non-conference action Tuesday at Hammons Field.
With the victory, Missouri State snapped the Tigers’ five-game win streak in the series, defeating Mizzou for the first time since April 26, 2022. Caden Bogenpohl powered the Bears’ 13-hit attack with hits in each of his first three at-bats, including a two-run homer in the fourth inning that staked MSU to a 7-0 lead.
The defeat for Mizzou (13-27) came on the heels of an impressive 2025 debut for starting pitcher Sam Horn, who turned in a scoreless opening inning in his first mound appearance for the Tigers since February 25, 2023. The right-handed dual-sport standout allowed a leadoff single to Bogenpohl before striking out Nick Rodriguez and inducing an inning-ending double-play lineout to third to cap an eight-pitch outing.
After the Tigers’ used an early scoring outburst to build a seven-run lead in last Tuesday’s 10-9 victory over the Bears in Columbia, MSU flipped the script by scoring in three consecutive innings to establish a 7-0 lead. The Bears got the ball rolling with three straight hits to open the second inning, including an RBI-double by Carter Bergman that put the home team on top, 1-0. Zack Stewart made it a two-run game with a run-scoring grounder to the right side.
Missouri State (21-18) kept the early momentum with another two-run rally in the third, putting its first three hitters aboard for the second straight inning. Bogenpohl opened the inning with a double, then came around on Rodriguez’s RBI-single. After moving to third on a Jake McCutcheon base hit, Rodriguez trotted home on a Taeg Gollert sacrifice liner to right for a 4-0 MSU advantage.
Bogenpohl struck again in the fourth, this time with a two-run homer to left to highlight the Bears’ three-run rally.
MSU put the game on ice in the seventh, using a two-run Gollert triple, followed by a two-run homer from Max Knight to wrap up the victory.
Knight finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs at the plate and picked up the mound win for the Bears with 2.0 shutout innings of relief.
