COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Baseball redshirt junior 1B Brandt Belk was named a 2020 Collegiate Baseball News Second-Team All-American, announced Tuesday by the organization.
The 2020 Collegiate Baseball News All-American list is comprised of 17 First-Team recipients, 33 Second-Team honorees and 31 Third-Team selections.
Mizzou has been represented in Collegiate Baseball News’ annual All-American list each of the past two years. In 2019, LHP TJ Sikkema garnered third team recognition from the national outlet. Prior to Sikkema’s nod, the Tigers hadn’t cracked Collegiate Baseball News’ All-American list in 10 years, as former RHP Kyle Gibson received second team accolades in 2009.
While Mizzou’s 2020 campaign was limited to 16 games due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Belk quickly emerged as one of the top hitting threats in the Southeastern Conference. The Houston native hit .457 (21-for-46) with seven runs scored, three doubles, two home runs, nine RBI and four stolen bases.
Belk’s .457 average ranked 11th in the NCAA and tops in the SEC. Additionally, his outstanding .544 on-base percentage placed 24th in the country and fifth in the SEC.
In his hometown tournament at the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic (Feb. 28 – March 1), Belk earned All-Tournament Team honors after hitting .538 with two runs scored, two doubles and nine total bases.
Despite missing the Tigers’ last three games of the season, Belk paced Mizzou batters with seven multi-hit games and four multi-RBI contests. He produced an outstanding .375 average overall against left-handed pitchers, while crushing right-handed pitchers at a .500 clip. Belk also possessed sensational situational hitting statistics, hitting .429 with two outs and .458 with runners on base.
