COLUMBIA, Mo. – With finals officially over, Mizzou football departed Columbia on Sunday for Harmons, Jamaica, for a week-long service trip.
Around 60 individuals between players, coaches and staff will embark on the trip, which will focus on helping the small mountain village of around 3,000 people in south-central Jamaica with house construction, refurbishing projects, school service, and Meals on Heels (dinner in a local family’s home).
Harmons is an under-resourced community with nearly two of every three people under-employed. Because of expense and its remote location, consistent education past sixth grade is often difficult. Money for basic needs, such as food, clothes, toiletries, medical treatment, and home improvements, is limited.
