LAST TIME OUT

  • Mizzou dropped a close contest to LSU, settling for a 1-1 draw after 110 minutes of action on Senior Night
  • LSU scored against the run of play in the 38th minute netting a shot that deflected off goalkeeper Isabella Alessio.
  • After the break, Mizzou responded with a 47th minute equalizer from Bella Alessi where the senior midfielder shot a ball at the LSU keeper and was able to pick up the scraps of the save to tap in the goal.
  • After two scoreless overtime periods, the match ended in a 1-1 draw giving Mizzou a five-game streak in which the team has not lost an overtime game.
  • The match served a first for a pair of Tigers as freshman Madilyn Hamline picked up her first assist and point as a Tiger and senior midfielder Bella Alessi scored her first goal of the season.
  • Although the match ended in a draw, Mizzou was able to gain more shots (+10), saves (+1) and corners (+8) than the visiting Tigers.

SCOUTING REPORT

  • Mississippi State finds themselves sitting at 2-1-2 overall and second in the SEC West standings with 8 points despite being tabbed to finish 11th in the SEC and one spot above Missouri in the SEC Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
  • After opening the season with two, 1-1 draws, with Auburn and No. 15 Alabama, the Bulldogs tallied two consecutive wins over Ole Miss and LSU.
  • Mississippi State’s first loss of the season came last Friday as the Bulldogs dropped a game to No. 9 Texas A&M in College Station.
  • Four different Bulldogs have scored this season, led by Monigo Karnley’s two goals.
  • Freshman midfielder Birna Jóhannsdóttir leads Mississippi State, and is tied for second in the league with two assists.
  • A surprise early in the season has been freshman goalkeeper Maddy Anderson who currently sits at third in the SEC with 25 saves, and fourth in the SEC with an average of five saves per game.
  • As Mizzou travels to Starkville—where the Bulldogs have not lost a game, the Tigers look to snap a two-game losing streak to Mississippi State dating back to 2017.
  • In their last matchup, Mizzou lost 4-2 on Halloween night in 2019. The last victory for the Tigers came in an overtime victory in 2016. Mizzou’s last victory in Starkville came in 2013.
  • Mizzou leads the all-time series 4-3-1.

BLITZ-ING TOWARDS ANOTHER MILESTONE

  • Mizzou head coach Bryan Blitz, the lone head coach in program history, is one-win shy of 250 wins in his career roaming the sidelines in Mid-Missouri.
  • The 2015 SEC Coach of the Year, Blitz owns a record of 249-213-37 at Mizzou.
  • Florida’s Becky Burleigh, Texas A&M’s G Guerrieri and South Carolina’s Shelley Smith are the only coaches in the league to win 250 games at their current institution.
  • Auburn’s Karen Hoppa is approaching the milestone with 245 wins with her Tigers.
  • Blitz is also fifth amongst his SEC colleagues in career wins with 294, trailing Smith (299), Hoppa (310), Guerrueri (475) and Burleigh (508).

LOOKING FOR A ROAD WIN

  • Mizzou is seeking its first SEC road win this weekend since a 2-1 victory at Kentucky, on Oct. 8, 2017.
  • Since that victory, the Tigers have gone 0-11-2 in road SEC matches, and a 2-13-3 mark in all road matches.
  • Victories at Iowa State (8/19/18; 2-1 (2OT)) and Ohio State (8/25/19; 3-1) and draws at Iowa (8/17/18; 0-0), Georgia (9/20/1; 0-0) and Ole Miss (9/20/19; 1-1) are the only points Mizzou has secured on the road.

AN AGGRESSIVE ATTACK

  • The quick attack that has become a staple of head coach Bryan Blitz has led to plenty of chances for Mizzou in 2020.
  • The Tigers have had a different player score each of their five goals — one of three SEC schools to have a different player score each goal.
  • Mizzou has posted back-to-back matches with 19 shots for a total of 57 on the season. Mizzou is 14th nationally in shots per game (14.25 per game), and 12th among teams that have played multiple matches this season.
