The NBA says it is determined to stop teams from deliberately losing games to improve their chances at top draft picks.
Commissioner Adam Silver told team owners the league will change its draft process before next season to address the long-running problem known as “tanking,” which was a key topic at a recent two-day meeting in New York. While no specific plan has been finalized yet, Silver made clear the league intends to act, saying simply, “We are going to fix it.”
Officials say the issue has been studied for months, and a special meeting is expected later this year to approve concrete reforms.
The NBA has already tried various rule changes in the past, but leadership now believes further adjustments are needed to maintain competitive integrity and fan trust.
