No. 23 Iowa State Defeats Mizzou

AMES, Iowa — In a tough defense matchup, the University of Missouri men’s basketball team could not find a way to top No. 23 Iowa State, 67-50, in Hilton Coliseum Saturday afternoon. The game was a part of the annual SEC-Big 12 Challenge with 10 SEC teams facing off against Big 12 opponents.

DaJuan Gordon led the team with 15 points, tied for his most against a Division 1 opponent this season. Gordon shot 5-of-8 and led the Tigers with seven rebounds. Amari Davis and Jarron Coleman also both recorded double-digits, scoring 11 and 10, respectively.

In a game that featured five lead changes and seven ties, Mizzou shot 42.9 percent from the floor and 35.7 percent from behind the arc. It was the fourth time in the last five games the Tigers have shot above 35 percent from three.

TURNING POINT
After a close first half, Iowa State went into the second half with a 32-29 lead. Both teams were pretty quiet offensively to open the second half until Iowa State went on a 15-0 run to hold Mizzou scoreless for over five minutes. The Cyclones took a 49-34 lead with three three-pointers, after making only one in the first half.

GAME NOTES
•    Mizzou’s strength of schedule ranks sixth in the nation, with five games against top-25 opponents.
•    Missouri is 2-3 in SEC/Big 12 Challenge games.
•    Coleman has 13-straight games with a made three-pointer.
•    Trevon Brazile now has 12-straight games with a block and has 29 in his freshman season.
•    Kobe Brown, who was held to just one point through the first half, recorded a field goal late in the second. He extended his streak to 31-straight games with a made field goal.

UP NEXT
Mizzou returns to conference play at home next week, as they host Florida, Wednesday, Feb 2 at 8 p.m. The game is set to be broadcast on SEC Network.
