The only perfect bracket left after the opening weekend of the men’s and women’s NCAA tournaments—from more than 40 million entries across all the major contests—was produced by an eighth grader from suburban Pittsburgh. His name is Otto Schellhammer. He is 14 years old. And despite his perfect-so-far women’s bracket, he admits to knowing nothing about hoops.
Otto says a lot of his picks came down to gut feeling and luck.
Still, he nailed some big upsets that wiped out millions of other brackets, helping him stay perfect while everyone else fell off.
Now, he’s the last one left out of tens of millions of entries — and if he keeps it going through the remaining games, he’d pull off one of the most improbable feats in sports.
** He has Texas cutting down the nets on April 5 in Phoenix.
