The Royals opened up their series against the Tigers with a loss. Kansas City lost to Detroit 7-6 to begin a three-game set at Kauffman Stadium. Bobby Witt Jr. went 2-for 4 with a grand slam and five RBIs in the setback. Witt Jr. now has 32 home runs this season. Sam Long was charged with his second loss after he allowed three runs in less than an inning of relief. The Royals are second in the AL Central at 82-and-69. They host the Tigers again tonight. Left-hander Cole Ragans is slated to start opposite Detroit righty Casey Mize.
