A pair of scams have been announced, adding to the already high count of scams popping up in the area this year alone. Both the Howell and Ozark County Sheriff’s Office’s have announced one each this week.
From the Howell County Sheriff’s Office, they state they have received several calls from citizens stating they’ve been called from an unknown source stating that a family member has been kidnapped, and that the callers demand gift cards for the family member to be returned safely. There are also reports that state the phone numbers resemble a local one.
In Ozark County, the Sheriff’s Office has made an announcement of a piece of mail that resembles a warranty home voucher. They state that this is scam mail, and despite appearing to hold value, it holds no currency and citizens should not attempt to collect on it.

Remember, if you or someone you know have been the victim or target of a scam, call your local authorities to report it and any information you have.
