West Plains, MO. – The West Plains City Council met on January 17th for a meeting where three City Ordinances were discussed.
The first was Ordinance 4731, on how the City of West Plains will be imposing a sales tax rate of three percent on all tangible personal property retail sales of adult-use marijuana sold within West Plains. This ordinance passed unanimously. Reasons for the tax to be under the average 5% in the nation were cited to be increased criminal sales when higher taxes are in effect. David Brodsky, owner of the Farmers Wife was to speak on this ordinance, but was not present.
The second was Ordinance 4732, which changed the zoning map of West Plains to include the property at 814 John N. Wiles. This property is a fireworks store near Highway 63. The reason for this was better coverage of fire and law enforcement personnel.
The last was Ordinance 4733, which authorizes the mayor to apply for federal financial assistance on behalf of the City of West Plains and to execute contracts between the City and the Missouri Highway and Transportation Commission.
