After an investigation, it was revealed Dunaway had shot the man after witnessing a domestic assault between Wessel and his girlfriend, and asking him to stop. Wessel charged in response, and Dunaway shot him.

While this appears solely as a case of self-defense, further investigation revealed Dunaway had taken methamphetamine before this happened, which led to courts deciding that this case should be ruled as a felony murder.

Brian Dunaway has been sentenced to 5 years of unsupervised probation on a Felony count of Voluntary Manslaughter.
