Woman charged with stealing from local fence company pleads Not Guilty

West Plains, MO. – The West Plains woman charged with over 60 counts of forgery and stealing during her time employed at a local fence company pled not guilty in court on Wednesday.

Makenzie Smith was in Howell County Court with her attorney on January 18th. During the hearing, Smith pled not guilty to Stealing $25,000 or more, 67 counts of Forgery, Stealing $750 or more and Fraudulent Use of a Credit or Debit Device. Judge Robert Ray ordered a criminal setting for 1p.m. on January 26th at the Howell County Courthouse.

The charges stem from when the accused was employed by Wiley Fence Company in West Plains between March 2021 and September 2022. The total amount discovered stolen was $51,612.42.
