West Plains, MO. – State Representative Darrell Atchison for the 153rd District in Missouri announced in his most recent Capitol Report that he will not seek re-election in 2024.
Rep. Atchison is on multiple committees in the Missouri House, including Utilities, Veterans, and Vice-Chair of Insurance. He is a Republican and was elected to this position in 2020.
Rep. Atchison stated his reason for not running for re-election on family changes. The following is taken from his Capitol Report Newsletter on Oct. 31, 2023: “After much consideration, I have decided not to seek re-election in 2024. Four years ago, Joanna and I were about to become empty nesters and everyone at that time was healthy. Fast forward to four years and we now have three grandchildren and some health issues in our family. These life changes as well as the amount of time that was spent away from home, has brought about this decision. I still have fourteen months to serve but am making this announcement early so the district will have time to find a new candidate. I want to thank everyone that has helped along the way and I will continue to work hard during these next fourteen months. It’s an honor to serve.”
District 153 covers Wayne, Carter, Ripley, Oregon Counties and parts of Shannon and Howell Counties.
