Winona, MO. – A Winona Sex Offender has received multiple charges after he failed to report employment changes and for being too close to areas restricted to him.
Jared Wesley Stapleton, age 40, is charged with felony failure to register as a sex offender, misdemeanor sex offender physically loitering within 500 feet of a childcare facility when children under 18 years of age are present, and misdemeanor sex offender loitering within 500 feet of a school building, and has a cash-only bond of $25,000. Online court documents do not state he is currently in custody.
According to the probable cause statement, a business owner in Winona had filed a complaint with the local police saying he had hired Stapleton on Dec. 19, 2023, but had fired him on Jan. 12, 2024, after learning he was a registered sex offender and the business is less than 500 ft. from a school and a daycare facility. The owner also said Stapleton had been loitering in the parking lot since his employment was terminated.
The Sheriff’s Department clerk noted in the statement that Stapleton had not notified them of his change in employment within the seven-day period allotted for registered sex offenders.
