Sonja Kay Smith

Sonja Kay Smith, 61 years, 10 months, and 26 days old, passed peacefully on August 2, 2024, at home.  Her family was by her side.

On September 7, 1962, Sonja was born in Tucson, Arizona to  Billy Ray and Gladys Elaine (Spicer) Smith.

She grew up in Arizona until at the age of 11 years old her family moved to Douglas County, Missouri. She graduated from Bradleyville High School.  

Sonja was involved in an auto accident that caused her to be disabled, but it never did weaken her spirit for life. 

Sonja enjoyed working at DOCO Sheltered Workshop and did so for thirty years in Ava. She was a Christian and of the Baptist faith.    Her hobbies were listening to country music and drinking her pop. She always looked forward to being with her family and friends. Sonja always had a positive outlook on everything. Her brother was a huge part of her life and she was so proud of him. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Lora Ann Smith.

Sonja is survived by her brother, Robbie Smith, and her nephew, Garrett Wayne Smith; uncle and wife, Martin and Janice Spicer;   her aunt, Sonja (Green); extended family and many friends.

Cremation services for Sonja are being conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, Missouri. A celebration of life will be at a later date and time by the family.
