Lori Shannon Collins of Isabella appeared in court this week, entering an Alford plea to charges stemming from an incident near Gainesville last June. Collins was initially charged with second-degree murder, first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle, and leaving the scene of an accident after she sped along Highway 160 while her boyfriend clung to the side of the vehicle. When Collins slammed on the brakes, Mark Ault was thrown from the vehicle, suffering fatal injuries. A judge dropped the murder charge, sentencing Collins to a total of 14 years in prison.
