Missouri Honors Legacy of Former Governor and U.S. Senator Kit Bond Today

Memorial services honoring the life and service of former U.S. Senator and Missouri Governor Christopher S. “Kit” Bond will be held today in Jefferson City and St. Louis. Bond passed away on May 13, 2025, at the age of 86, leaving behind a legacy of public service and leadership deeply rooted in his commitment to Missouri.

A State Memorial Service will take place in the Rotunda of the Missouri State Capitol, beginning with music by the 135th Army Band at 11:15 a.m. and the service starting at noon. The event will include remarks by Governor Mike Kehoe and other current and former officials, followed by a public viewing period. Bond will lie in state at the Capitol for 24 hours after the service, giving Missourians an opportunity to pay their respects.

On Thursday, May 22, a Celebration of Life Service will be held at Ladue Chapel Presbyterian Church in St. Louis at 1:00 p.m. Funeral honors will be provided by the Missouri National Guard and Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Governor Kehoe ordered U.S. and Missouri flags to fly at half-staff statewide through May 22 in tribute to Bond’s decades of service. The Tuesday service will be livestreamed on the Governor’s Facebook page and the State of Missouri website for those unable to attend in person.
