Eagles smoke Salem Tigers on night of Homecoming

The Liberty Eagles were back home this week as they hosted the Salem Tigers for their homecoming game. Eagles continued to show the same offensive finesse as they did last week as they get the victory, 36-0.

1st Quarter: Liberty Eagles defer the coin toss and The Salem Tigers will receive the ball. Eagles immediately have good luck on downs and shut down all of Salem’s attempted blocks. The first down comes with a 30-yard gain by Graham Tune. Tune gives off a pass to Jaren Rutledge who makes the first touchdown with a good extra point kick by Parker Tune as The Eagles start off the ballgame with an 8-0 lead. The Salem offensive isn’t completely unshakable as they keep a goot beat on the line of scrimmage. Eagles almost score off the hands of Jaren Rutledge but the touchdown is called back on a holding call. However, Eagles get back the yardage on the next three down an Jaren Rutledge gets the ball back into the in-zone to make the lead 16-0.

2nd Quarter: Neither team scores any points in the 2nd Quarter. Some decent gains for Liberty on offense, but not many changes as Liberty goes on to lead at the half, 16-0.

3rd Quarter- Liberty proves to handle the game on defense just as well as offense as they add an additional interception on top of the one made in the 2nd Quarter. Jaren Rutledge scores the next few points for the Eagles and his second touchdown of the night making it a 23-0 game. The amount of yardage continues to build for Liberty in the following sets of downs as Parker Tune scores in the next offensive play. Despite some of Salem’s cleverness in blocking, The Eagles continue to outsmart them as Eagles hold a 30-0 lead at the end of three.

4th Quarter- While Salem Tigers end up getting an interception in the last half of play, Jasper Melby is able to score the last six points for Liberty as they win the ballgame 36-0.

Eagles main issue in this game however was not their speed. Penalties proved the main obstacle of the night.

Liberty will remain at home next week as they host the Houston Tigers for the final regular season game before district play. Catch the Broadcast following the Pregame show @ 7 PM on The Fox 96.9.
