Shirley Vivene Holcomb

Funeral services for Shirley Vivene Holcomb, Age 83 of Christian County, Missouri will be Thursday, December 11, 2025, 1:00 P.M. in the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, Missouri. Visitation will be prior to the service at 12:00 P.M. Burial will be in the Mt. Olive Cemetery at High Lonesome, Missouri. Officiating will be Pastor James Orick.  Memorials may be made to the Eastern Gate Missionary Baptist Church.

God took Shirley V. Halcomb home on an early peaceful Sunday morning, December 7, 2025. She was 83 years, 9 months, and 19 days old.

Shirley was born February 19, 1942, in Bruner, Missouri, to Leroy and Dorothy Fern (Johnson) Phillips.

Shirley grew up in the Bruner community. She graduated from Sparta High School.

On February  19, 1966, Shirley and Donald “Rex” Halcomb  were united in marriage in Christian County.

Shirley was a worker and was employed with a garment factory in Ozark and Springfield, Missouri. She later worked on the farm with Rex. No task was too big for Shirley. She tackled anything that raising cattle needed.  She was a Christian and a member of Eastern Gate Missionary Baptist Church. At church she sang with a group called “The Bells”. For bible school she created crafts and participated in church activities.

Shirley and Rex enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching Jeopardy, and attending church together. She also enjoyed mushroom hunting, gardening, yard work, and loved making memorial flower arrangements for family. One of her joys was traveling with Rex to Colorado hunting and camping with friends. In addition, Shirley delighted in caring for her pets, especially her cat, “Meany”.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Fern; her husband, Rex; her brothers, Larry, Bill, John, Doyle, and Carol Joe; and one sister, Mary.

Shirley is survived by her siblings and their spouses, Dale (Paula) Phillips of Ozark, Missouri, Jack Phillips of Bruner, Missouri, Gene (Mary Beth) Phillips of Bruner, Missouri, Vickie Ipock of Fordland, Missouri, and Donald (Lacey) Phillips of  Ozark, Missouri; her sister-in-law Linda (James)Orick; many nieces, nephews, extended family and numerous friends.
