The Cardinals completed their second major trade of the offseason yesterday, and while it lacked the shock value of their earlier move, it still carried significance. The destination may raise an eyebrow Boston but once reports surfaced that Willson Contreras was willing to waive his no-trade clause for the right situation, his departure felt increasingly inevitable. In exchange for Contreras, who has two guaranteed years remaining on his contract along with a team option for a third, St. Louis brought back an MLB-ready starting pitcher and two additional pitching prospects still developing in the minors.
