Van was raised on a farm, where he learned the values of hard work, humility, and perseverance—qualities that shaped the man he became. Throughout his life, he worked several jobs before answering his calling to ministry. Van faithfully served as the minister of East Oakland Baptist Church in Mountain Home, Arkansas, where he devoted his life to sharing God’s word, encouraging others, and serving his community with sincerity and compassion.

Van was deeply loyal to his family and friends, and those who knew him well knew his wit and humor were unmatched. He had a gift for making people smile, often punctuated by the phrases he became known for—“Well, I didn’t know,” and “Shoot far.” His laughter, warmth, and unmistakable personality left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.

Though his circle was small, Van’s love was great. He cared deeply for those close to him and lived his life with quiet faith, integrity, and kindness.

He is survived by his niece, Ashley Ellison Hall (Cline) of Ash Flat, Arkansas; two great-nephews, Kelton Hall and Kohen Hall, both of Ash Flat, Arkansas; along with many cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ewell D. and Ethel Lou Brown, and his sister, Vonda Kay Ellison.
