According to the sheriff’s office, deputies served the warrant around 5 p.m. on April 11 following a joint investigation with the Missouri Children’s Division. The investigation began after the agency received reports expressing concern for the well‑being of an infant and allegations of illegal drug use by the child’s mother. Officials said multiple attempts were made to contact the mother and verify the child’s safety, but she refused to answer the door. Sgt. Box then applied for and received a search warrant for the residence.

Deputies located both the mother and child inside the home. Methamphetamine was seized during the search. The infant was taken into protective custody and placed with the father.

Rebecca Frye, 39, of Sparta, was taken into custody. An arrest warrant was issued charging her with possession of a controlled substance and endangering the welfare of a child. Her bond was set at $1,500 cash only.

Sheriff Chris Degase thanked the Children’s Division for its assistance in the case.
